FW16 Fans turn off during load even when plugged in

i dont care how loud the fans are, at least i know they are running

as of the last year fans just turn off. when under load (helldivers 2, bf6) and cause my game to stutter so bad i get maybe 1 frame a second. other times when just going about my life the computer will just turn OFF. no Bsod, just force shuts down.

i cant access fans to force them on using any utility mentioned here on the forums

i am using a high performance power plan but that doesn’t seem to work all the time either.

please, i beg you help meeee

Do your fans work at all?
Or is it that they specifically turn off only under load? They spin at low rpm when idle but under load they shut down?

they do spin up at system start and then low idle.

they spin up when open a game, then they decide they arent needed anymore and go back to idle

You need to provide more info. Are your fans turning off because they aren’t working properly, causing the CPU to thermal throttle?…. or is the CPU power throttling (limiting max power) so much it just doesn’t need the fans to spin? The later happens if you are on the most recent 4.02 BIOS.

the former.

if the cpu is power throttling then it isnt following my set power plan (set through windows settings)

Bios and firmware have been updated, and now it seems to be following power plan much better. still no Direct control of the fans though.

Framework Control is a good way to manage this. I was having the same issue and now I just have a very aggressive fan curve which seems to mitigate the problem. If you fire up HWInfo and play, look for PROCHOT EXT. When that triggers CPU clocks drop heavily (sub 3.00Ghz, avg. 2.10 Ghz). Even with the adjusted curve though I sometimes have issues, so I’ll just manually set it to 100%. Not sure if there is a real long term solution because it seems to be a limitation of the amount of thermal headroom.

This was almost a really helpful post.

I will finish it with the program Kyle_Clarito is referencing which wouldnt be obvious unless you already know what ‘Framework Control’ is…
