Hello everyone, recently my graphics card has no longer been recognized correctly by the system, e.g. it can no longer be found in Mission Center, and I also notice that when I start an app, the CPU load goes extremely high even though I have actually selected Discrep Graphic Card.
I found this in the System logs:

```auto
did the symptom appear when you updated the system?
would you mind listing the actual release for future reference?
i can no longer say exactly, i had the problem once after the computer came out of standby and after a restart it worked again. unfortunately i have not needed the graphics card for the last 4 days so i would not have noticed it if it had been missing during that time. i also can’t think of how i could determine this.
Which versions do you think would be relevant?
pleas make sure to uninstall any graphics driver you aren’t using, also make sure you are running the new kernel.
Ok mesa is probably not it, the downgrade did not help.
The problem appears to be in the kernel driver, or the firmware.
check the linux-firmware package as well as the kernel.
consider installing stable drivers before asking for support, It might be useful to start a testing topic for people that enjoy broken systems.
this seems to be a regression in the kernel and/or mesa.
i’ve had the same issue crop up with my framework16 recently and it seems to cause the dedicated GPU to fail to exit sleep mode once it enters it.
i have seen reports of issues with AMD graphics corruption with mesa 1.25 so this may be another symptom of that.
I’ve been unable to figure out a workaround to resolve the issue yet, but i remain interested in figuring one out. 🙂
How exactly should I do this, I assume that the packages offered in the repos have a certain stability, if not I will have a hard time finding out where this is not the case
Unfortunately, the problem also seems to exist with mesa 24.3.4 😢
I am not familiar with arch, as far as I can tell 6.12 or 6.6 seems to be the latest stable kernels.
the problem seems to be that the kernel driver can’t configure the hardware properly, this indicate that it’s a regression.
i don’t know why, but i just booted fedora from a stick to see if the hardware has a defect, now i’m back in arch and the graphics card is running, with all the updates mentioned above… i feel screwed.
yeah…
but at least that proves it isnt’ a hardware issue.
Reaching out to a more arch specific support channel might be a good idea, there should be tools to track down the issue and apply the apropriate fix.
Either that or wait a week or two and no doubt the bug will be fixed and a `pacman -Syu` will fix the issue. 😃
yes that’s very reassuring that the hardware is doing well. if it comes up again i’ll post in the arch forum.
But I’m thinking about trying Fedora again.
It sounds like you booted into the old kernel, when you update it is important to verify that you run the right kernel after the update. This shouldn’t be a problem, but both I and an other community member have had this problem on different distros when using grub.
i don’t use grub, i use systemd-boot with uki and i only have one kernel installed at a time, so i can’t boot into an old kernel.
As you can see in the initial post, the very latest kernel is also loaded.
Does the problem stop when you install an LTS kernel?
Having an LTS kernel is a good idea on Arch, just because it makes narrowing things down a lot easier. If it still occurs on the LTS kernel, then the regression was introduced by a fix and it would be very easy to figure out what is causing these issues.
So it seems to be working with the LTS, I’ll keep an eye on it.
After that, that might be the culprit
Ok, it’s getting wilder and wilder: Currently, the graphics card can simply be displayed in the middle of operation in Mission Control and also simply disappear again.
I can see the graphics card in Resources, but it doesn’t do anything and not in the Mission Center. I just got a new kernel today, unfortunately without any improvement: Linux 6.13.8-200.fc41.x86\_64
I’m seeing this issue/a similar issue on a fresh install of Fedora 41, but I’m not seeing this issue on my Arch install. I’m using the Zen kernel, perhaps you can give that a shot and see if it works around the issue.
