Do we have any, even vague, timeframe for when the haptic touchpad for the FW16 might be available for purchase or pre-order, or as part of a laptop configuration?
I see it available for selection in the AI 5 340 pre-order page but not for any of the other configurations. It also looks like it’ll be significantly cheaper if you get it there vs buying it separately ($70 v $130).
My current laptop is dying and whether I just buy what’s available right now and upgrade later or wait depends heavily on whether we might expect the haptic touchpads to be available in 2 months-ish vs 8, for ex.
Probably 2-3 months for the FW16 haptic touchpad just based on rough timelines from previous launches and given that you can currently pre-order a FW16 with one in it. It’s cheaper in the configurator because there it’s the delta between the normal trackpad and the haptic trackpad ($50 vs $130) instead of just buying the whole haptic trackpad (not sure about the other $10 though).
To hedge a bit, I could see 4 months but I’d be surprised if it’s longer than that, again just based on the timeline from previous launches.
It is available for preorder as a part of the laptop configuration. Historically speaking, after laptop preorders are fulfilled and we have enough stock, we will start selling them (in stock, no preorders) on the marketplace.
Thanks for the reply. Any word on when/if it might be available for preorder with the 7040 series processors? It’s only showing up in the AI series configurator as of now.
They are not going to be available for preorder for 7040 series. 7040 series laptops come with 3 piece touchpad preinstalled. One piece keyboard and translucent bezel options may or may not be added as options in the future, but touchpad can not be added to these older configurations.
Honestly, very hard to tell exactly when we will have them in stock.
