Edit 3: HDMI card now working again after the laptop spent the night asleep. Very weird and annoying that this keeps happening, and that it took so long to resolve itself this time. I still welcome any ideas about preventing / fixing it quicker in future, or about my Windows update issue. But otherwise, I guess the answer is that the HDMI issue may (or may not) just fix itself.

Hi all, yet another ‘HDMI not working’ thread for you. I see this is a common issue for others, and it’s also a common issue for me. Usually I fix it by unplugging and replugging the HDMI expansion card, maybe with a Windows restart. But not this time. It doesn’t work in any of the F13’s four expansion bays, but it does work when plugged into the USBC port of another laptop. So it must be a driver issue, right? Here’s where it gets complicated. I did install AMD’s own updated graphics drivers a while back, which I now see from the forums is not recommended. I also then couldn’t update Windows 11 for the last week or so. Update 25H2 kept installing, claiming success, and then asking to install again. Unclear whether this is actually connected to my display issue though, because it’s only today that I suddenly lost external display. But I followed forum advice by running AMD’s cleanup tool and reinstalling the official Framework driver pack. That seems to have fixed Windows update, in that it’s no longer trying to reinstall 25H2 over and over, although update history does say ‘25H2 successfully installed 02/11/2025’ and below that, ‘25H2 successfully installed 17/10/2025’, which is weird. But still no external display, including after multiple attempts at refitting the expansion card, and restarting the laptop. Another oddity: Device Manager still says my display driver is v32.0.13074.0. But I expected to have rolled back to v24.30.74 (if I understand correctly that this is the equivalent driver number listed on FW’s download page here). So maybe that has something to do with it? I don’t know, I’m stumped, and unfortunately none of the similar threads I can find are helpful at this point.
Any ideas, beyond contacting FW support (which I’ll do right now, and I’ll try to report back if we fix it)?
Edit: I do have a Windows preview update available (kb5067036), which I could try, but maybe that will cause more problems! Also, I updated to BIOS v3.16 a week or two ago. In case that’s relevant.
Edit 2: Windows update issue is back, wants to reinstall 25H2 yet again ![]()
Thank you
