How to figure out the fault?

So, repairable laptop meet fault. Now what can I do to figure out the problem?

Symptom: my FW12 shuts itself off after a few seconds

It does this even in the bios config, so its not OS related. I get five to ten seconds of seems to work fine, then sudden power off.

It was working fine for months now this.

In case you hadn’t realised, this is a user-to-user support forum. Problems with your FW12 should be referred to the Framework service desk. To do that, click the Support link in the page header, scroll to the bottom of the Support page and click the button labelled Submit support request to initiate the process.

Somewhere in the fault description you should emphasise your point about it occurring while navigating the BIOS pages.

Hope you can get it sorted soon.

It seems a little off that company support is needed instead of there just being a guide

Suddenly powering off, even in bios, is a pretty significant & probably a low level issue. So not something easy, or even often possible, for most users without any special skill or equipment to troubleshoot.

One thing to check is if there is any difference if AC is connected vs not.

I agree. This sounds like a hardware fault to me, so contacting FW support via their web site is the best way forward. They will ask you for various pictures and steps to follow to help them diagnose more, but my guess is that they will send a new mainboard or new battery.

Check your power button (part of the bottom case) and the Power Button Board it touches: Power Button Board - Framework Guides

Sounds like something could be holding down your power button after you press it to turn the laptop on, forcing a power-off some seconds later.
