I’ve been using my Framework 16 - AMD Ryzen 7, for a year and a half now. I’ve faced some issues : reboot while caring my laptop by hands, keybord freezing… But overall I’m pretty happy with this laptop. I know what I was getting, thanks to the reviews in this blog. So my expectations were not so high on some stuff.
But, I face myself using it much more for gaming that I thought I would. And I feel like i’m asking too much of my curent configuration. For exemple, Fantasy Life is lagging a lot. As I’m very not an expert on the subject, I was wondering if the community could help me find out what I should improve, what are the best things to do there (update software, buy extensions…) ?
Here is my current configuration :
AMD Ryzen™ 7 7840HS
16GB (2x8GB) Memory
512GB Storage
Webcam Module (1st Gen)
Windows 11 Home
Thanks in advance to those who’ll take the time to ansmer me
PS: sorry for the not adequat tag, I was forced to use one of theme to post…
I’ll start off by saying I just spent the last 2 weeks of my life troubleshooting performance issues only to realize that all I needed to do was clean the heat sinks/vents of lint. I’d recomment you at least take a look at yours as well. That said, it sounds like your device is likely still using liquid metal, and so you’re likely running into a thermal issue with that. Framework has since moved away from liquid metal to phase-change thermal pads. If you are still on LM, you can request a replacement kit by contacting support, see this guide for more info: Liquid Metal → PTM 7958 - Framework Guides
I’m not sure about the reboots and keyboard freezing, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some oddities associated with overheating. I think that’s what was causing my charging port to stop working.
Additionally, you can also try updating your BIOS, which includes an update to the keyboard firmware that was causing it to detect keypresses when the lid was closed.
