I/O error, crashes intermittently (Xubuntu 24.04)

I have a new Laptop 13 AMD Ryzen 7040 running XUbuntu 24.04 that I bought in February this year. (16G DDR5-5600, WD Black SN770)

It worked fine for about six months, though it did seem to get very hot underneath at times and I worried a bit.

This past month, about twice a week the icons at the top of the screen (battery, wifi, bluetooth, etc) will change to generic squares and if I attempt to run a command from a bash shell (for example, /sbin/shutdown) it says “i/o error”. Often this happens right after I wake up from hibernate; or sometimes 5-10 minutes after. I shutdown by holding the power key for 10 seconds and then boot up again and it’s fine.

I don’t recall if this started before I updated the bios to 3.16, or if it’s only been afterwards.

I’d be happy to send logfiles or whatever, if you tell me what to send.
