Wonderful - now it doesn’t sound any worse than the competition. Thanks for the post!
Holy crap! I was a little doubtful how much this would help but it helps a ton! Thanks for this!
Can anyone from Framework chime in here on whether Framework could go about this tuning, or provide the relevant datasheets/info so the community can assist in this work? @nrp?
It would be much more optimal than running EasyEffects and using CPU cycles.
I just installed EasyEffects and the premade profile for FW13 on Ubuntu 24.04. So far, it works great! My computer sounds WAY louder now. Music sounds great on Spotify, and dialogue is clear on Youtube. Thank you, OP!
I asked for the hardware tuning verbs here: Speakers sound quality - #104 by Kieran_Levin
Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find a realtek datasheet that documents the verbs.
Wow, this makes a HUGE difference. Just changing to the “general” setting on FxSound is night and day. Framework should figure out how to incorporate this at a hardware level so that it isn’t using the CPU, as the stock sound is pretty crap. I find I prefer some of the built-in presets to the one that OP made when I am listening to rock, EDM and metal but like OP’s setting for just about everything else.
I wish the FxSound had an option to change the preamp, as several of the built-in settings result in some crackling at times.
Chiming in for audio quality here ! (the pun was unintended…).
I stumble upon a post about replacing speakers with others, like Apple MacBook 12 speakers fitting into FW13. I just reached one of the zombie macbooks I had lying down there. 2017 4xUSB-C Macbook pro have speakers that almost have the same size and profile. But (there is a but), that’s where Apple made a difference : MBPs have a tweeter and a woofer, for each side. Each have their own amp IC (ssm3515, so 4 ICs in total) that also seems more powerful than ALC295 or 92HD95.
I’m still working on checking what output you can get from these speaker plugged into a FW board.
