Before I get started, here are my specs:
- Framework 16
- Windows 11 pro
- AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS CPU
- AMD Radeon™ RX 7700S GPU
- 96GB RAM
I am mostly happy with my FW16 so far, it runs great during daily use and I’m happy with framework as a company. However, when gaming my laptop struggles to get even 60 FPS with my average being 20 to 30. What confuses me, is that the utilization of my CPU and GPU both remain under 10% with my RAM not being much more.
Most of my testing and troubleshooting has been with Minecraft because that’s what I play the most, but it happens with all games, here is everything I have tried/looked into:
- changed how much RAM is allocated to the game (tried 4, 8, 12, and even 48GB)
- made sure the game was using the correct graphics card
- halved my games resolution
- reduced render/entity distance
- tried looking at BIOS to see if I could tweak any settings
- checked and updated drivers
None of these changes made any significant impact to my performance. I know it’s not my internet because 1. this happens on singleplayer, and 2. when my girlfriend and I play on LAN her performance is perfectly fine. The only thing left that I can think of is RAM/GPU bottlenecking, but I have no Idea what to do about that. Any suggestions would be appreciated, Thank you for your hard work.
