Intermittent loud noise/vibration from laptop

My friend has an AMD Ryzen 5-7640U Framework Laptop 13 which intermittently makes a very loud buzzing sound that vibrates the entire desk. We have an audio recording but the forum won’t let me attach it.

We think it is likely to be the fan. However, we can sometimes also hear the fan blowing air normally, so it’s not as if this happens whenever the fan is running.

We’ve tried opening the laptop, cleaning out all the dust using compressed air, and removing and reinstalling the fan/heatsink assembly (of course replacing the thermal paste at the same time) but have not been able to improve the situation.

Any ideas?

The only idea I have is to point out that carelessly using compressed air on computer fans can damage them. The problem is if you let the compressed air spin the fan very fast the out of spec high rotation rate can cause damage to the bearings or apparently to the electronics. However, if you didn’t ever let the fan spin very fast, I don’t know, maybe the bearings wore out or were faulty anyway?
