The microphone shows up fine on arecord but whenever I try to use it, it doesn’t make any sound. I’ve also tried toggling the hardware switch multiple times. Has anyone else had this issue?

Could you show us a screengrab or short video of your OS sound settings? I don’t know Cachy OS, but in the dialogue boxes I’m used to from Mint or Ubuntu, there is an Input tab in the Sound dialogue box. Often one has to choose from several devices, and they don’t all work.

I assume Cachy uses PipeWire with WirePlumber? If so, the Audio > Sources, Audio > Filters, and Settings sections of wpctl status will also have useful info.

I’m not sure why, but checking it now, not even having restarted my computer since I was troubleshooting, it suddenly works again.

Sound like the behavior of of a break in the microphone cable. It can intermittently work / not work when the conductors touch or lose contact.
