Sadly, still no pro version (with real ecc that is logged in the os)
The only amd mobile chip with ecc I found is this nas: MINISFORUM N5 Pro is a 5-bay NAS with AMD Strix Point, up to 96GB RAM, 10 GbE LAN, and OCuLink - Liliputing.
It’s impossible to find any laptop with ecc (but some very big & old xeon).
not available yet
USB4? Is this the 80Gb variant as found on the FW16, or still the 40 as on the 7000 series?
Do these mainboards support undervolting or curve optimizer?
The forums aren’t an official Framework support channel, so unless Destroya feels obliged to play the “whisper down the lane” game, it’d be faster for you to use the official support channel and relay their answer back here.
Afaik FW16 doesn’t support 80 gbit/s via USB.
Anyone knows if the camera support windows hello? i get so used to it so hard to go back.
yeah, it should be. Just unplug everything (even easier imo bc there is no 24 pin cable to fight with)
the FW12 touch screen won’t be coming imo to the fw13 because the bezels on the FL12 are already pretty big. I’ll be pretty interested to see how they handle replacements for it
no, but the power button fingerprint reader is fantastic
That’s a shame, but yeah fingerprint is also good if its reliable. I use it for my passwordmanager too.
it’s reliable and I’m turning on my computer anyways so it really isn’t any extra time
Great to hear. Can’t wait to get mine
Its more expensive than other brands but the fact you can upgrade so easy and change ports and all of that is worth alot to me.
Plus they seem to support linux which is something i want to play with
It means we can continue to deliver on the promise of longevity
Can you guys say anything about BIOS support improvements for this gen? I imagine there’s probably been a good amount of engineering effort going into having updaters ready for all components on linux at launch this time, right?
I’d love to be able to use these for security-sensitive work this time around. Timely mitigations for BIOS vulns will be important for anyone using these devices for stuff like signing builds, dealing with HIPAA data, sensitive FinTech or corporate confidential work, handling client PII, etc.
Excited to see how the work enabling software longevity has been going!
A really enticing upgrade for me. But I’m way too emotionally attached to my original Tiger Lake motherboard to let it go
(And it is still performant enough for me anyway.)
Is the FW13 Ryzen AI 370 board more expensive than the FWD Ryzen AI MAX 385 board everywhere? How? The latter has a higher sku cpu and comes with memory on the board.
it has 4 more cores, a fan as well as a bunch of laptop specific functionality… just because 385 > 370 doesn’t mean there isn’t a reason for it to be more expensive
I wish they did the transparent keyboards in the new colours too so we could get matching translucent purple everywhere!
What is the max TDP profile for this new SOC?
Thanks! Is the the TDP that Framework will allow in the BIOS of their upcoming laptop?
