Introducing the new Framework Laptop 16 with NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 5070

Hey, it’s a good start and answers more than I knew before. Thanks for the link. I was trying to figure out where that was and must have been looking in the wrong place. Also doesn’t help that my isp has been down for the last hour when I was looking.. curious if the board will come pre-loaded or if I need to get a USB and flash it.

Edit: Being that I only ordered the mainboard by itself to swap..

The board most assuredly will come with the UEFI on board if you were asking that.

Can we get a Strix Halo board for the laptops, I don’t want an 8GB GPU that costs an arm and a leg and uses a shit ton of power for very little benefit over the 7700s it’s like a 20% performance uplift for a VRAM capacity that is outdated today.

Strix Halo seems like it would require soldered memory like the Framework Desktop, and Framework has already released this generation’s Framework 16, so while it would be nice, the chances are slim.

Hopefully these improvements can come in the next generation.

Wait for LPCAMM2

Does the 2nd gen 7700S also support power over USB-C on the graphics module, or this is available only on the new 5070?

Only on the 5070. 2nd Gen 7700S is not a new board design. Just new fan and housing.

That’s what AMD already tried, supposedly… According to Framework, AMD was working hard on ensuring compatibility with LPCAMM2, but without real success, as the signal integrity or something was not good enough for it to reliably be fast.

Problems like signal integrity can be solved by technological advancement. The real success comes with cost consideration. Currently a 128GB LPCAMM2 kit costs almost as expensive as the mainboard it installed on. As such there’s currently no intensive for mass production, but socketed RAM with Strix Halo(or equivalent) will eventually available for purchase.

Do we know when in November the first batch is going to ship?

Damn, hype sucks. I saw the notification on the thread and thought “HEY! Reviews dropped!”. Turns out, it was just you

If I baited someone else with this answer, sorry

Is this what you were looking for?

It might just be me but did the GPU get more expensive? I remember it being around 700 Euro, now it’s 780

You can check historical prices on wayback machine

Completely forgot about that, thanks!
