Anyone know if the black plastic around the cpu contact on the 7040 mainboard heatsink is supposed to be there? And if I removed it is it a bad enough idea I need to go replace it again?
The heatsink install guide seems to be generic and not have enough instructions about it. I took it off (since the clear plastic cover to protect the heatsink was glued to it quite strongly). However, when I removed my existing heatsink with a bad fan it was present. So far it’s been running fine but I’m wondering if I need to fix this, or I’ll end up on my 4th mainboard in this laptop.

Venting a bit - but I’ve tried poking support (hilariously have 2 email threads running), but so far they’ve done a pretty poor job of communicating (i.e. demanding a order number without telling me why, then telling me an answer that’s only true for a different mainboard, which they only admitted after I told them I didn’t believe their answer when they referenced the same guide I had already read
). And given the only answer I’ve ever gotten out of framework support in the past is “buy a new part” (which would have been fine if it didn’t take multiple months to get the answer + completely undermine my confidence in them), I’m pretty dubious I’m ever going to get anything useful out of them.
Also any idea how to get the install guides updated? (In the past I’ve left comments, but that never seemed to produce a useful update).
