Keyboard not working in Debian 12.11 installation on AMD Ryzen AI 5 340?

I’ve been trying various LINUX distros on my Framework 13 AMD Ryzen AI 5 340 and ran into a strange problem when trying to install Debian 12.11.0 or 12.10.1 from the bootable ISO (burned to a USB stick).

For whatever reason, the keyboard doesn’t work during the installer, whether it be the GUI or Text installer.

I tried with both the netinst and full ISO images, but both ignore the keyboard.

Has anyone else seen this? I’m guessing the kernel in Debian 12.11 is too old (6.1.something, I think).

I was able to get the latest ArchLinux installed just fine, though it was tedious. That had kernel 6.15.4.

Currently I am running ParrotOS 6.4 that is based on Debian 12 but has kernel 6.12 in it.

Anybody else get plain ol’ Debian 12 working on the Framework 13 AMD Ryzen AI 300 series? The current articles seem to be for the Ryzen 70XX series…

I wouldn’t go for Debian 12, but I would go for Debian 13 Trixie, which is in stabilisation freeze ahead of a release toward the end of the year. The kernel in Debian 12 is 6.1 and the kernel in Debian 13 is 6.12 and, along with a bunch of more recent software, it will have a better match to the capabilities of the Ryzen AI 300 CPU/GPU/NPU chips.
