Keys leaving marks on display

Has anyone else had keys leaving marks on the screen or does it not bother you? Not sure if they are visible with the screen on since I wipe it down regularly now but it’s annoying to do.

I’ve never seen a laptop have that except a thinkpad with the nub which left a permanent mark.

My coworker’s macbook has the keyboard imprinted on his screen too. It’s because he stores it in a backpack that puts pressure on it. If you are storing it in an inadequate case, that doesn’t prevent compression, any modern laptop will have this “problem”.

You are probably using a case that does not protect it properly.

My work MBP and all the laptops I’ve ever owned did this. You might want to consider the more rugged 2nd gen lid that’s available for purchase.

This is normal. For this reason it’s a bad idea to hold any consumer-grade laptop with one hand, thumb on the lid.

Every laptop I’ve owned has done this, the marks wipe off. It’s never caused any damage.

Also, this is a duplicate thread. Here are some other threads where this is discussed:

I put it in a laptop bag. Do you have recommendations for a carrier that won’t put pressure on it?

As a interim solution, I just bought a 1 mm roll of foam and that’s been working.

Thanks for the tip

Those were closed though

If you don’t use the dGPU module this works really well: Amazon.com: Pelican Ranger Series - Laptop Bag/Sleeve - 16 Inch, Black [Elastic Carrying Handle] [Secure Zip Lock] Water Resistant & Heavy Duty Laptop Case for MacBook Pro 16 / Air, iPad Pro, HP, Dell, Lenovo : Electronics

It doesn’t fit with the dGPU though.

Oh, my bad

I do have the AMD GPU actually, I tagged my post with it. Would it still fit?

Unfortunately not :frowning:. I’ve tested both the expansion bay shell and the RX 7700s, only the expansion shell fits.

Mine lives in a backpack and within 6 months wore the matte coating away aroynd the corners of keycaps on my screen and created a line where the top of the trackpad module is. It sucks but when I eventually buy a new display (Framework PLEASE give me a vrr oled) ill be keeping a thin microfiber cloth between my keyboard and screen. I was batch 4 so I’ve had mine for a bit over 2 years now

Whenever I’ve tried to search for laptop bags it’s so hard to find anything offering real protection. And it’s just ridiculous if you look at the advertising, a bit of foam being touted as if its high level protection. It’s like some kind of joke.

So, years ago I gave up, and use a 2mm thick aluminum plate placed against the screen side when inside bags. Someone else on the forum got a cut-to-size carbon fiber plate, off ebay iirc. My plate serves dual purpose, when using my laptop on my lap, couch, anywhere that might block the vents, the plate goes underneath. Added adhesive velcro to keep it attached there, and stair grip adhesive sheet to both give it grip when on any surface & protect tables from the possibility of scratches.

It’s like some kind of joke.

Can’t buy quality in this day and age. 90%+ of this stuff are just dropshipped Chinese products, not intended to be “premium” in any way.

Yep.
I actually have a laptop bag which offers real protection. A Dell branded bag from maybe 15 to 20 years ago. Looks like a regular bag, fabric on the outside. But thick hard plastic inside around the edge, laptop held in the middle by very dense foam. I wouldn’t be surprised if my laptop could survive a high fall in that bag.

Haven’t found another bag with as good protection.
