Laptop 16 AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 DIY DOA?

Which OS (Operating System)?
None Installed

Which Framework product?
Laptop 16, AMD AI 300 Series, AMD Radeon™ RX 7700S

Received laptop the other day. I installed memory and an SSD; Memory came with the laptop, the SSD I provided and was a spare from another system and had been working the morning I received the laptop.

When I plug the laptop in I get no lights and nothing happens when I hit the power button.

Here is at I’ve done:

Tried plugging the power supply into all three USB-C ports I have: one on the back permanently installed on the graphics module and two USB-C expansion cards that have both been tried in all 6 slots.

I plugged the power supply into a phone which started charging. It did not kick over into fast charging but I’m not sure if it’s supposed to.

I left the power supply plugged in for about an hour with no change. The power supply was not at all warm so I don’t think it’s even attempting to charge.

I removed everything and tried to boot with no change.

So a couple questions:

  1. Is this thing even worth trying to troubleshoot at this point? I’m assuming that it’s completely dead since I get nothing when I plug it in.

  2. Does anyone know when official tech support is back? I can’t find anything current on the sight, and the auto-response email I got seems to imply January 5th… I find it a little hard to believe that support would be totally shut down during a week when more people than usual would be firing up their stuff for the first time but I don’t know.

Thanks.

Just FYI, if someone sees this that runs the forum there is no tag showing for the configuration I have so I picked the closest one I could find. I tried to do a freeform one but that doesn’t seem to work either. IMO forcing people to tag something incorrectly because the allowed tags aren’t updated, significantly reduces the usefulness of tags. Maybe I’m missing something but it’s not obvious what that thing is.

  1. each usb port is capable of different things. Charge only from the side 4 ports closest to the display.
  2. you will only get a display if the ram works.
  3. first time, ram needs to “train”. This can take 15 minutes.
  4. for diagnostics, it is best to remove the ssd and wifi card, and focus on getting the ram and display working.
Try one ram chip at a time.
  5. keep looking at the side led. After attemping to power on, it might flash a pattern about 30-240 seconds after switch on. Its flash pattern is a diagnostics code.
