Larger screen possible?

Hi,

Has Framework discussed whether they’d be willing to make a convertible or 2-in-1 (same thing?) that has a 16 inch screen or larger? I see that such machines are offered from Dell, LG, Asus, but only shipping with Windows.

An addendum/edit to this question:

I spent some more time reading up on some of the 2-4-year-old conversations about bigger screens, and they were helpful, and I see that Framework does offer the Framework 16. But, hopefully it can be said that this new thread attempt on my part is at least a little different because I’m specifically interested in a 2-in-1 with a large screen.

No. Framework generally doesn’t discuss their future product plan.

Hi JLAZ,

Framework does not share their product roadmap, but if something is announced, it will be available on their blog. https://frame.work/blog :slightly_smiling_face:.

Ok, thanks. I just saw this additional reply. My question is partially rhetorical. In addition to wanting to know what Framework thinks of this idea, I just want to be on-record as requesting this sort of product, and noting that some others might also be interested.

I think partly in response to my inquiries, there is now a product (Dell hardware with Linux software added by a third party) of this sort here. To the best of my knowledge it is the first such Linux-equipped product prominently available for sale in the world, or at least the US. Maybe I am missing something. And will others follow?

However, I’m not sure it meets my criteria, as it has only one hard drive, and I’m not sure if it’s soldered, and I don’t know how repairable it will be. I am not certain, but I don’t think Dell offers that very high-end expensive warranty I like to get on their best hardware. I’m also not a fan of the inucluded “AI” stuff, whatever that is.

I do also wonder if making a 16 inch into a 2-in-1 or convertible that is very durable could be difficult. And would it be very usable as a tablet (I don’t know if a heavy well-made 16 inch screen and keyboard would be hard to hold and work on without a desk?…. though I guess there is no rule which demand that all 2-in-1s or convertibles must be as moderate to use as a smaller Apple ipad). While I’ve been focused on the “2-in-1” name here, perhaps I should moderate it to “convertible” if it turns out that the product would be more usable as a tablet if the keyboard could be removed?

In any event, regardless of all my concerns, and the fact that I have more questions than answers, I keep coming back to the idea that such a device, if it’s really well-done in a quality way, could be a good solution for me for the next 10-20 years. I’d like to look into it anyway, and Framework’s focus on repairability and upgradability fits into some of my thinking on this.
