Linux Distro Survey - Framework Laptop 13

Recently switched to Mint Cinnamon as my main OS after Windows basically bricked my laptop with a BitLocker recovery key loop after an update, and I’ve got to say, I’m really enjoying it. The fingerprint reader setup was pretty much hassle-free when following the steps and the customisability is fantastic.

Some dump the kernels into the efi partition, hence the space.
I tend to make a 128MBytes EFI partition on my devices. Largely enough.

I researched, but could find no guidance on sizing the EFI partition in the time I was willing to devote. My storage needs are relatively modest - a 1TB SSD is more than plenty, so I just made the EFI partition 1GB. I now understand that 512MB is more than enough, and I think your use of 128MB is also robust. Thanks for your response.

Kubuntu for me. I like Ubuntu as a stable base but I prefer Plasma and the KDE apps.

I’ve run with Fedora for a few months and OpenSUSE for a few months longer, but something about RPM distros (zypper or dnf) just doesn’t work with the way I Linux and I end up totally breaking them.

I use Linux exclusively for like 20 years now, and I just bought my framework 13 after having a system76 Lemur Pro for a while, it seems to be a great laptop so far, I have the 4070 version with Linux Mint Mate 22.1 It works great with no issues, I love the fact that I can upgrade the BIOS with the terminal. the only issues I notice so far is that sometimes the usb c power stops charging and I have 2 usb c, it seems like once it reaches a certain level it disconnects, I don’t know if that’s by design and the battery does not last that much but it’s ok.

NixOS, higher than I expected.

Solus KDE works great. Simple steps to have the fingerprint reader working.

I go back and forth between Fedora and Ubuntu. I prefer Ubuntu, but was on Fedora until very recently, since Fedora packs the kernel+mesa much quicker, and that was working better for the AMD IGPU.

Recently I tried Ubuntu 25.04, pushed the latest updates on that, and it seems to be working very stable for me so I am back to Ubuntu.

Using Omarchy now!

So I’m currently still running Fedora 42, but I have another installation running with Kali Linux, although it’s still in evaluation mode at the moment, and I would actually like to use CachyOS https://cachyos.org/ on my laptop

NixOS :snowflake:

Fedora43(silverblue/atomic desktop)/Rawhide/Bazzite-dx ; bootc based so switches are a reboot away. Everything else arch/ubuntu/nix is done in a distrobox if needed so no need for switching/repartitions/dualboot etc
