Recently, someone I knew had spilled water on my laptop and it fried my ram slots, as well as my ram. I have an AMD 7640U mainboard, and I’m now looking to replace it… I’ll need new ram (extremely unfortunate right now) and a new mainboard. If I’m buying a new mainboard, I want it to be an upgrade from my old 7640U. I’m a broke university student, so I can’t afford to go too crazy.
What do you guys think I should do? I was thinking about maybe looking to see if any of the options I have will let me use some DDR4 ram, due to the crazy proces we have right now… But I’m not sure how possible that is with out selection. I know my 7640U board would not take DDR4, and I’d assume the other AMD boards are the same. I can’t afford the new 13 pro motherboard because of it’s need for LPCAMM memory… What would be the most bang for my buck option ? The main thing I’d want is for the GPU to be better than the one in the 7640U… So maybe the ryzen 7840 board?
Yup, youse said it, the 7840U would meet the GPU issue ( very happy 7840U user here). DDR5 is the go nowadays no matter which ways. Options, 1) 7840U and find 16GB of DDr5 ( a lot of people that upgraded pre Ram-apocalypse and are trying to make a couple of dollarydoos on their kits in FB marketplace ), option 2 - go towards an intel mobo in the FW line up ( am afraid i havent looked/ bothered with intel since i left my razer 15-10875H to move on to the FW. ) that takes DDr4 (mebe the 11th /12th gen.
Now here’s the kicker, you either splurge for the 7840U and the DDR5 and call it a day, or you buiy a DDR4 compatible platform and buy an external GPU, or you move out of the Framework …framework and buy a cheap enought laptop to get you through the tough time, and keep or sell the FW13 case, and when you can, get the 13 PRo all kitted out…and send the bill to the person who spilled water on your laptop
FYI i am in australia, we are already slugged with higher than average prices, if youse in Murica, you can try the multitude of online options to procure yourself some good hardware.
