LVFS update says fingerprint update sensor available, won't install it

Which Linux distro are you using?

Ubuntu

Which release version?
(if rolling release without a release version, skip this question)

(If rolling release, last date updated?)

24.04.4 LTS

Which kernel are you using?

uname -r says:

6.8.0-111-generic

Which BIOS version are you using?

04.02

Which Framework Laptop 16 model are you using? (AMD Ryzen™ 7040 Series)

Yes, AMD Ryzen™ 7040 Series

Problem: I’m following the firmware update instructions here:

After

fwupdmgr update

I get:

Devices with no available firmware updates:
• UEFI dbx
• System Firmware
• USB2.1 Hub
• WD BLACK SN850X 2000GB
Devices with the latest available firmware version:
• Fingerprint Sensor

Okay, so how do I get the updated fingerprint sensor update?

Think you will need a newer fwupd (2.X series one) which propably isn’t available on Ubuntu. Maybe check if its available in the newest LTS release 26.04

There is also a setting in bios, on my version it’s in Security > I/O Interface > Fingerprint.

Ensure this is selected as Enabled.

I have mine set to Disabled and the driver is never installed, which I am okay with that, don’t want it at this stage.

See how you go.

Cheers

Isn’t that saying it already has the latest update?

smacks forehead Of course. I guess I read “Devices with no available firmware updates” and assumed the other section must be “Devices with available firmware updates”.
