You’re trying it without the magnetic connector, correct? Need to minimize variables. The cable which is plugged into your DIY adapter will likely only work in one orientation, if it doesn’t work, flip it 180°.
If it still doesn’t work then either it needs the 2nd CC line, I’ve only made my extension cables with both lines, or something else is wrong. Some of the connectors used on boards like that are not good quality. I’ve disassembled a few to check construction, but not connectors that look exactly like the ones you have.
