Missing RAM?

Hi there,

Got my desktop machine a few days ago and I don’t think I’m seeing the full 128MiB of RAM

free -m
total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 125784 3013 122273 70 1615 122771
Swap: 8191 0 8191

AFAICS that’s 125784 / 1024 =~ 123Mib RAM.

Am I getting something wrong here? What do other folks see? Perhaps there’s some kind of BIOS tweak to get the full 128?

Thanks!

If I recall correctly, there’s something about the Ryzen chips that keep a few GB in reserve.

GPU uses the same RAM chips and some portion is reserved for it. I think, you can control how much through the BIOS, there’s the option there having values like Normal/Gaming, with Gaming allocating more RAM to the GPU.

I don’t have the Desktop, but that’s also what happens with AMD APU on Steam Deck and iGPU on Laptop 16.

You would also lose some RAM to memory reserved for other peripherals, but I’m not sure how much it is these days.

Some memory is hardware-reserved/os reserved etc, this is a normal amount - nothing to worry about. Also, MiB? :stuck_out_tongue:
