My Audio is cutting out on my USB DAC with the RTX 5070 module

I recently upgraded my batch 14 FW16 to the RTX 5070 from the Radeon 7700S and I’m having an issue with my FiiO KA3 DAC where it cuts out for a split second and causes the audio to fade in again from the anti pop feature. I’ve tried reinstalling my graphics driver from the driver bundle and even updating the Nvidia drivers the their latest version but nothing seems to fix it. The cutting out only happens when the RTX 5070 is not being actively used. When I run a program that enables the 5070 like running a game or running a software that enables it the issue goes away. I ran LatencyMon cause I went to Claude first and found out it’s being cause by the Nvidia drivers. I had this DAC problem on the 7700S too but it only happened while on battery and now it’s happening plugged in too.

I’m running Windows 11 25H2 and my here’s my FW16 configuration.

  • Ryzen 7 7840HS
  • RTX 5070
  • 32GB Crucial RAM
  • 1TB SN850X
  • 1st gen display if that’s important

If the FiiO KA3 DAC is a usb device, try plugging it into port 1 or 4.
I have found them to be more reliable.

What else do you have plugged in to other usb ports?

The behavior doesn’t change when I plug it into any other port, into USB hubs or when nothing else is plugged in. It’s caused by the driver from my testing.

Just found out the issue is also happening with my Airpods too.

The latency tool is a useful one.
I would suggest raising a bug with nvidia as it highlights the problem being their DPC routine.
There is always a trade off between GPU performance and latency.
They might be able to tell you a setting to tune it to be more audio friendly.

I sent a support ticket to Framework a moment ago. I was thinking maybe they’d have better luck communicating with Nvidia. I’m not sure if others are having this issue on Windows or if it’s just me. I also noticed that the issue happens on the built in speakers as well. I just never use them so that’s why I never noticed.

I found out the reason why I was getting audio cutting was because of the Framework Control software (link). The audio cutting went away after I uninstalled it. I still get them on battery though but LatencyMon shows a slightly different reason now. I did have the audio cutting on battery for my FiiO KA3 DAC when I had my 7700S installed. It’s possible the issue might be something else entirely on battery but idk.

An update on the support ticket I made. Framework decided to replace my 5070. I told them I think it’s a driver issue and showed the data I’ve collected but they still decided to replace it. I kind of feel bad that they’re replacing it cause I think it’s fine and it only wastes the 5070 I have now. I doubt it’s gonna get used now.

Kinda nvm on that part of it not happening on AC anymore. It still happens but only briefly when I launch something like HWiNFO or Nvidia App. Seems to not happen when I’m using my computer normally.
