i have an earlier gen fw13 input cover (not sure if first or later), and I’m trying to replace the keyboard right now, and there are 3 of those little black screws that are absolutely stuck.
infuriating.
I’ve tried
glue
rubber band
drilling
I can’t get any tool to get a grip on these remaining screws – which is really frustrating because the other screws came out so easily.
You mean removing the keyboard from the input cover? Yeah, that does not seem worth it for most people. Framework should put a warning on the keyboard that it’s not easy swap.
when the screws betray me, that’s when I get bothered – as they just won’t be going back in to the case, and my laptop will weigh less when put back together
Star, torx, or anything else needs a certain minimum depth within the head for the socket. But Philips, because it’s triangle shaped, can “cheat”. The point of Philips is only at the center of the shaft. It’s pocket is removing less material at the inside corners where the shaft connects to the head. So it’s just the only thing that can fit in the lowest-profile heads.
