New Built Laptop 13 + 61Wh battery - does not charge or work with battery installed

Windows 11

Laptop 13 AMD AI 300 Series

I just put together a Laptop 13 from parts in the marketplace. It was a great experience and I feel like I can now easily replace any part given all that was involved.

I purchased the 61wh battery with it, got it all set up, plugged it in, installed windows and seemed good to go, except once windows loaded i got a message that only 3% battery was left. Needless to say it drained quickly (I did not update the BIOS yet). I was then unable to power it on at all, and when plugging it in, the LED would flash red briefly and then turn off.

I removed the battery connection (per the mainboard reset page) and plugged it in and the board flashed red and blue continuously (i assume indicating no battery). I was able to turn it on and boot up without issue. I could not update BIOS since there was no battery.

I then turned off, disconnected, reconnected the battery and got the same issue with flash of LED red and no powering on. Did i get a dud of a battery? I emailed support last night but have not heard back yet.

With the battery that low you may just need to let it charge for some time before things will work. My understanding is that if the battery is very low then it will trickle charge to a point where it can turn on the needed electronics to do fast charging.

I left it plugged in overnight with no luck. Regardless, it should run on ac power even if battery is dead, and the wierd thing is it only runs on a when the battery is not actually connected.

Install both battery and AC plug. When the computer is able to boot up, open up powershell and powercfg /batteryreport and check the battery health. You can also check the battery’s current power and voltage on third party software like HWINFO

Edit:

Sorry I thought the parts were from market. If it’s from the official marketplace you should contact support to have the laptop(or part of) replaced or returned

Sounds like a broken battery.
If it will not boot with the battery connected, you would probably need a EC CCD to diagnose for sure.
My guess is support will just replace the battery for you if it is still in warranty.

Unfortunately this is not an option since it will not turn on once the battery is installed.

Yep, i am on it. They finally responded late last night (seems like support is overseas). I sent video of issue and pictures showing battery connector and pins are all straight. Waiting to here next step/ideas from them. I assume it will be replaced since i just bought it a couple weeks ago.

Is this normal for a broken battery to prevent the system from turning on at all when connected? I just hope it is the battery and not some other issue.

It is possible. A few other people have mentioned it on the community forum here.
I am not sure exactly why it fails to boot with a bad battery.
If FW made the full schematic available, we could probably work it out.

They sent a new battery and it had same issue.

Video shows it powers on with battery disconnected. When I connect it, it immediately shuts down.

Bad motherboard maybe?
