New FW Desktop Max+ 395 frequently crashes or freezes

Hello community

I have following problem with my Framework Desktop Motherboard.

It is crashing, freezing, rebooting all the time. I am not even able to install windows11(25h2) without errors. Linux also makes all time problems.

When it’s running and I wanna download something, the files when they are bigger than 1GB, they are alway corrupted (checksum wrong). Doesn’t matter which OS. Also unpacking archives failing also.

I tried different stuff now.

Switch 3 different power supplies. 3 Different SSDs, BIOS update. Played around with the GPU allocations (auto, manual, different sizes)

I slowly belief the board is broken.

Have anyone any other ideas?

OK. When did you take delivery of the machine? Has it always been like this, or is this a new phenomenon?

I wondered if your NVMe drive is corrupted, but if you’ve tried others, that might rule that out.

Can you get any crash or freeze behaviour in the BIOS? If you have RAM or mobo problems, I’d expect your BIOS to fail too.

I have it a few weeks now and it’s like this since beginning. First I thought it’s a driver/firmware problem..

BIOS works normal. No problems discovered in there.

I ran also memtest86 successful.

Sometimes it runs stable (eg 20mins prime95 full) for a while and then suddenly crashes.

Can you boot into Windows or Linux and have it stable if you let it run idle for several hours? I wonder if you can get to a sensor temperatures screen and a CPU activity utility to see what the machine is doing. It is possible it crashes or reboots as a result of a thermal problem.

Have you tried running Linux from a bootable memory stick? I wonder if your NVMe interface has an issue, making problematic all the drives you’ve tried.

When it is running for a bit stable i did some benchmarks and the after 20mins of Prime95 the CPU was below 80°C. Cooling looks fine so far.

Maybe this is an idea. Later i’ll put the ssd in a USB-Case.

Hmm, very odd. With the BIOS being fine, and memtest86 being fine, I’d expect some stability.

Is your 64GB in two sticks of 32GB? Maybe take one out, confirm with memtest86 again, then try again with booting to your internal SSD.

Also, consider doing this again, but remove your internal SSD - run just from bootable USB. Maybe there is something in your internal NVMe interface that is causing an issue.

you should atleast open a ticket to FW support.

This is starting to sound like a hardware issue, could be a bent pin on a connector, small cold soldered joint, component out of spec, like it was suggested get in touch with Framework support and work with them. They have the best means to diagnose and remedy the situation. We are all end users here on the forums.
