Niche expansion cards

HDMI/DisplayPort in and a keyboard+trackpad output would be nice,

a tiny battery expansion would be interesting, though I don’t know how useful it would be.

Hi there! New to the forum. Just the other day I plugged in this cheap charging wattage display, and it has the same length as the depth of an expansion card, as well as the same height! it sits basically flush except for how its rounded.

so, new idea: wattage display expansion card. niche and pretty much useless in normal situations, as you’d have to flip over the laptop to look at it and it probably uses a decent (1 ish watt maybe?) amount of extra energy on usb. this unit sadly doesn’t have A and V display either, but maybe there’s a similar module that has that. to use this one though all you would have to print is an expansion card with a slot for this to plug in, probably pretty similar in shape to the wireless charging card that was made. if i ever do this, ill send the (probably horrible looking :))end result.

Power Button, so I won’t need to open the laptop to turn it on

I would LOVE a VGA expansion card lol, I have a few unused monitors on my desk!

  1. Downard-pointing optical finger sensor… Basically, an optical mouse designed to watch your finger move around on the sensor, and move the mouse pointer. That way, if you’re holding the computer out in the field, you can mouse around without balancing the computer precariously. These were somewhat common on first gen android phones.

  2. Extremely small OLED display.

  3. A hardware emulated Altair 8800 complete with onboard dip switches and led display

  4. Ultra high quality DAC and ADC

  5. Survival module with a Plasma lighter, flashlight, compass, whistle, and knife blade. (Remove from computer to use)

  6. Ultrasonic speaker to make really annoying sounds only young people can hear so they leave me alone.

Powered ESATA that can drive a 3.5 inch disk with USB 2.0 support anyone?

Isn’t esata very dead?

Not for me, I use powered ESATA to drive 3.5 inch HDDs externally. Also don’t we want niche stuff here?

Well power availability for the expansion cards is not great so that may be an issue.

Fair enough.

Ultrasonic speaker to make really annoying sounds only young people can hear so they leave me alone.

fairly easy; microcontroller and some sort of buzzer. would use a bunch of power though and isn’t very selectively targeting young folk since hearing is very variable. go out and make one!

It also may lead to young people doing the opposite of leaving you alone, more research required XD.

VGA is still used in places where a digital signal would be very expensive if not impossible to carry.
Because they are analog signals, they don’t care if there is a little bit of distortion, you will still get a picture.

They use these in nuclear plants and whatsnot. Sure you will get specks and whatsnot on the display, but you will get a display.

On a similar note, “bluescreen cart” module (KVM) maybe?
Ok yeah probably not.
