Hi all!
I’m running into a weird issue on a 11th gen Intel mainboard running in a Cooler Master case. I just purchased the mainboard used from a friend, so this has happened for the few days I have had it. I don’t believe the previous owner has ran into this.
When the display turns off for any reason, the display will never come back on. The easiest way to reproduce this is to simply power the monitor off and on, but it will also happen if the monitor is turned off due to power savings settings. Oddly enough, recovering the display from sleep does seem to work more often. The display turns back on when I hit the power button to wake it up from sleep.
This happens on both my installed Manjaro Linux, but I also confirmed it happens when loading a Fedora 43 live USB.
I’ve tried multiple monitors, and switching monitors during the same boot with the same issue.
I found an issue talking about HDMI when placed in the front left, I have tried it in both left side ports.
I have tried a USB-C monitor in Manjaro, however I’ve noticed that each USB-C port will work once, but if I unplug or replug the monitor into the same port, it will never turn on.
The system is making USB connect/disconnect sounds while this is happening, and the system still appears to be completely responsive over SSH. I’ve also installed Sunshine streaming, and have been successfully able to login while the system is in this display-less state.
I thought I was able to get a display back by running systemctl --user restart plasma-kwin_wayland.service but I’m not sure if it always works.
I am on an older BIOS, I didn’t quite get the instructions for updating from Linux since I have am on 3.10. I also saw the known issue about S3 sleep in Linux so I was a little hesitant to update.
The only thing I haven’t tried was Windows due to not having an extra SSD to install on.
Not sure what logs would be relevant and helpful here, but happy to provide whatever once I know what they are!
