Hi, I’m having issues with my fingerprint reader under Windows 10. The fingerprint reader is 1st gen, but I upgraded my mainboard to a Ryzen 300 series board.
What I’ve tried:
- Ryzen 300 driver bundle
- 12th Gen Intel driver bundle
- Goodix firmware updater extracted from the older driver bundle
- fwupd on Linux (Device listed as up to date)
The fingerprint reader works perfectly on Linux, but on Windows it doesn’t show up in device manager and the Goodix firmware updaters return an error saying no device was found.
Is this a known incompatibility on Windows, or is there anything else I should be trying? Thanks!
Do yourself a favor and upgrade to Windows 11 unless there is a highly specific reason to use Windows 10 for old software/business app, etc. Extended support for Windows 10 is going away soon which means security fixes may stop for this version.
The newer AMD boards have issues with Windows 10 usually on the drivers.
If possible, a clean install of Windows 11 is the cleanest method so old things do not get migrated in the OS. The updated guide from Framework shows how to install a clean copy of Windows 11 on the AMD boards. Be sure to have a backup of my important files.
Turn off bitlocker or at least have the recovery key handy if deciding to do an upgrade to Windows 11.
