Notepad 100% CPU when lid closed

Hi, I’ve seen a few posts here about high fan speed when the lid is closed. For me (on Windows 11 on the i5-1240P model), I’ve noticed select applications–particularly Notepad-- using a high CPU load whenever the laptop’s display is off. The laptop heats up, the fan spins fast, and Notepad’s CPU time counter rises in the “App History” tab of Task Manager. I’ve also observed MuseHub doing the same thing. If these two applications are closed, my computer stays cool and quiet when the lid is closed.

Interesting, but most likely has nothing to do with those applications themselves. It (Windows) could be doing maintenance, file indexing, or even Windows updates. Most of these things are triggered by a closed lid, or a blank powered down screen rather, than by what programs are running.

One way to tell would be to unplug your device and see if the behavior occurs again. If it is consistently happening for an extended period of time (several weeks, for example) then there may be something else going on there.
