Hi my framework 13 recently arrived, i bought a nvme drive separately, specifically the Silicon Power 1TB UD90. When i tried installing fedora it wouldn’t show up in the install manager or when i went into the partition manager in the live area. Its also not showing up into bios, i have no where else to plug it into to check if it even works so i am asking here first before going to measures like returning.
well i believe i have found the issue, i took the drive out again and looked at the back and found a ton of pins missing, will be returning, shame on you silicon power, i have had a good experience with your other drives but this sucks, welp at least it wasn’t a problem with the laptop
The drive you got there doesn’t look at all like a “Silicon Power 1TB UD90”, they all have a black PCB. You probably got some fake product, maybe an old, slow SATA based drive, which would be incompatible.
The missing pins are probably not a problem, there are a bunch of unused pins on the bottom, some manufacturers put unconnected contacts there others just leave them out.
The top side should be fully populated though, most of the important stuff is there.
The drive may otherwise be a dud though.
i also noticed that and was really confused, either way it doesent work.
