Plex constantly crashing after Ryzen MB upgrade

  • Which OS (Operating System)? Windows 11
  • Which Framework laptop? AMD Ryzen 7840U

Just checking to see if anyone else is having this issue. The plex desktop app is crashing fairly constantly during video playback. It looks like it’s the AMD driver that’s crashing:

I was wondering if it might have something to do with the driver version used in the framework driver bundle? Can I install an updated version to test without massively breaking things?

I’m having the same issue on a brand new laptop with the same board.

Latest Framework driver bundle (10/24/23) and BIOS (3.03).

Haven’t noticed issues with any other applications though I haven’t tried anything as graphically intensive. Plex works fine in the web browser.

Some users have indicated that the latest drivers from AMD’s site are able to provide better stability:

I’ve also found that you can disable hardware decoding in Plex to stop the crashing. It’s not like decoding takes much CPU anyway.

Latest drivers directly from AMD resolved the issue for me.
