I’m utterly surprised about the extremely low performance of my Ryzen AI 7 350. It’s out performed by my old (much cheaper computer), even the web browser is slow. It feels like I could basically use it as an extremely expensive typewriter. Is that really what I could expect or are there actual use cases for the computer?

Hi,
Do you have any further information? Like Specs of the old computer? Deskop PC or Laptop? Maybe even some benchmarks?
I am waiting on my 13 Pro preorder with AI 350, so I am kinda surprised.

Yep, per Mike’s comment, benchmarks is the way to go. If you can run such on both systems, and provide the results here, folks will comment.

Is this Windows on both, Linux on both? etc. It’s possible that your CPU has switched to a low frequency e.g. the OS has put it into power-efficient mode.

Consider also looking up a ranked performance comparison on [this website](https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleCompare.php), and let us know what you find. For the sake of illustration, [here is my upgrade](https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/3425vs6397/Intel-i7-9750H-vs-AMD-Ryzen-AI-7-350) with the Framework 13 Pro - more than double the performance of me ol’ workhorse.

Welcome to the community! I have a Ryzen 7840u, which is similar performance to the AI 350. It still feels plenty snappy to me and runs lots of programs quite well, in my opinion. Maybe there is an issue with your machine (overheating, etc.).

I’m sure folks on here would be willing to help if you want to do some troubleshooting. If you want, I’d suggest starting with details about operating system, RAM, SSD, etc.

It is Windows. Im trying to run the [13 AMD Ryzen™ AI 300 Series Driver Bundle v2.01](https://community.frame.work/t/framework-laptop-13-amd-ryzen-ai-300-series-driver-bundle-v2-01-2026-08-05-release-stable/84077) now hoping that it he. I don’t really need to do any proper benchmarks to see how horrible it is unfortunately (and now it’s not power save mode, and even if it was it would still be far from explaining the difference to my old computer, it’s just different leagues). Hoping the driver update fixes it.

I don’t doubt your perception of it is real. However community members are probably going to need more than “it’s slow” reports. More detail = more help, as ever.

Good luck with the driver update!

Updating drovers didn’t help.

I run **Maxon Cinebench** for these two computers:

**Framwork** : AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 w/Radeon 860, 8 cores, 16 threads, AMD Radeon 860M
**Asus** : AMD Ryzen 9 4900H with Radeon Graphics, 8 cores, 16 threads, NVIDEA GeForce RTX with Max-Q Design

**Test results (Framework/Asus)**
GPU: - / 16304
CPU (multiple threads): 2939 / 2394
CPU (single core): 633 / 397
CPU (single thread): 465 / 295
MP ratio: 6.33 x / 8.12 x

I guess that the answer in my use case is simple - The unbalance between CPU and GPU (which is too bad for Cinebench to even test it) in the Framwork makes it unusable for my intended use.

I’ll have to sell it to someone that is planning to use it for compiling code or similar as it is probably good for that.

I should have commented on this before - the chip you have in this machine is going to absolutely _fly_ at web browsing if it is working correctly. I have the same processor, and with Mint and 64GB of RAM, it goes like a rocket.

How much RAM do you have, and is it installed as a pair?

The AI 300 series is a downgrade from 7040U series in terms of iGPU

A single stick of RAM will run in single-channel. This will reduce performance somewhat, and typically affects integrated GPU performance the most. With RAM prices the way that they are, it’s not very fair to just suggesting installing a second stick of RAM. But if you have the ability to go to two 16GB sticks, or even add a second 32GB stick, it would likely improve performance.

On the other hand, if you rely heavily on the RTX GPU in your other machine, you may not be satisfied with the iGPU in the AI 350, even with dual channel RAM.

From the benchmark above, the CPU in your Framework machine, even with the single-channel RAM limitation, is quite a bit faster than your Asus.

Well, if I would really have “somewhat of a problem” that could be worth trying. However, it’s currently not even near my old computer in actual performance when I use it, so the problem is certainly bigger than that.

If even web browsing is slow then yeah there is probably something else going wrong.

Purely experimentally could you load up ubuntu or fedora or something (preferably officially supported) from an usb drive and see how the same web browsing tasks feel there comparatively?

You are comparing two completely different classes of laptops. A gaming to a non-gaming to put it simply. You should have bought a 16 to be comparable.

Yes, which is basically what I concluded if you read my comments. People seem to suggest that the problems are not expected though. Unfortunately I believe you’re right, so I will have to sell the computer to someone that wants to compile code or similar (as I said before).

But no, 16 is too big for me, and after reading about it and understanding my problem a bit more I just have to conclude that the current Framework computers are not for me.

Hopefully there will be changes to that, because I like the concept.

Would you answer this, OP? I think we are still missing a lot of information that we need to help diagnose the issue.

> [@Adrian\_Joachim](#):

A good point that’s already been made in the thread. OP, I would recommend not giving up at this stage - as best I can tell there is a resolvable problem here, separate to the GPU limitations.

Well I did a benchmark as requested and honestly got no valuable answers based on that, so not sure why providing other information like “real workload”, whatever that means, would add any value.

I really think the person that said (don’t remember his name and on mobile now, so too lazy to check) that said the computer is not designed for my use case is right.

In fact, reading reviews and tests I think it’s safe to conclude that no Framework, not even 16, is anywhere near competitive for gaming.

Just to admit my mistake and move on. Fortunately for me I can afford the loss, but for anyone else considering to buy it and wanting to use it for gaming I would say read tests and reviews first (perhaps talk to an Ai too), then draw your conclusions.

Great concept, just not for me. Yet.

We have a few people here who have been actively sabotaging assistance offered to them, including aid from peers and official help from the Support process. I surmise that this is a mixture of buyers’ remorse and a specific cognitive pattern amplified by anger or resentment.

If I put you in that counterproductive category, it is explicitly not to offend you; it is to wonder what purpose the thread is for, if not to obtain relief for your technical issues. There is a lot of kindness here, and experts/customers often go out of their way to help, but they are not an unlimited free resource.

Well, would you like to state plainly what the thread is for? What outcome are you seeking? If it’s just a grumble, that’s fine - it’s perfectly human. It’s perhaps worth stating that clearly and early though, so people don’t spend time on the wrong track.
