QEMU-KVM on Framework 16

Hi,

I moved to Framework from Intel Mac. I had several VMWare Fusion VM’s with older versions of Mac OS, Windows, etc.

I have AMD 7040 and 7700s and I run Fedora Desktop.

I have managed to add a windows VM using VMM no passthrough of the GPU at present.

I have followed guides to try and convert the VMWareVM files to Qcow2 but have not managed to get past “Booting from Hard Drive” message.

There are no bios settings to check if SVM is working but I guess it must as the windows VM I created does work. My main problem is that I cannot lose access to the Mac VM’s. I have tried using the OpenCore project to create new VMs from Mac OS Images but the also doesn’t get past the EFI drive icon showing. I have been trying to install Catalina as a baseline.

Has anyone had any success in this area or am I flogging a dead horse at this point.

I’ve been able to run windows 10 and 11 as well as Linux in a qemu/kvm based vm just fine, even with dGPU passthrough to the vm (my favorite host distro for this is debian based Proxmox).
So far however, I’ve not been able to successfully run any of my MacOS VMs on my Framework 16, but must admit that I’ve yet to take a serious look at the issues that its facing, so it may very well be something trivial.

I’ve sent a DM with more details (and missed that you’re using Fedora). While it’s a breach of the macOS licence to run on non-Apple hardware, there’s guides at github for running under Linux using the Linux Kernel Virtual Machine (kvm) from QEMU, not VMWare or VirtualBox.

thanks i got it to work of a sorts.
