Yeah, the 3200 CL20 SODIMMs worked fine for me, but others have also reported issues when using any of the Kingston versions at other speeds… XMP has a lot to answer for!
I’d definitly like to know where the problem with xmp lies. I thought it is something more or less native to the cpu (like it supports it or not) and not something that is complicated to put into the bios. And then again, where is the difference between the two speeds, that one works and the other won’t.
But on the other hand, I only know the gross cs theory behind how ram actually works and nothing of this fancy stuff
Sadly the support team couldn’t tell me if we will get an update for a broader ram support or not.
XMP is not officially supported by any CPU as far as I know. It is a method to make the memory run at nonstandard speeds and settings.
XMP requires a compatible processor, motherboard and RAM, and even then it isn’t necessarily reliable. The Framework doesn’t support XMP as has been mentioned numerous times, so it’ll never work with any XMP profiles. Some RAM will happily go back to a proper JEDEC standard speed and timings combination, some RAM sticks seem to be very fussy about running at standard speeds and cause problems if not run under an XMP profile.
Does anyone know if buying a kit (2 x 16) or two individual 16gb ram sticks make any difference?
I’ve been trying to buy dual rank ram since my laptop is coming soon but every kit I can find in my country is out of stock.
But I found a place where I can buy two individual CT16G4SFD832A sticks.
Should I go for it or wait for kits to come back on stock?
Sorry for my ignorance.
This will be fine. No issue is expected. Just make sure you memtest them.
Thanks for the confirmation! I’ve had my eye on KF432S20IB/32 (x2), but wasn’t sure the 3200 CL20 timing would work. Some 3200 CL22 kits are quite a bit cheaper, but I guess I’ll have to get this one for the better feeling of lower CAS latency
I got a Mushkin MRA4S320NNNF16GX2 32GB (2x16GB kit) redline from Alternate for 84€.
3200 works fine and it’s dual rank according to CPU-Z.
