Randomly shuts down

Does anyone else’s laptop just randomly shutdown.

In this case here’s a summary:

  • Black screen (almost like I ran out of battery - but I was plugged in)
  • Laptop didn’t restart, it stayed off
  • I had to press the power on button for it to restart (and could tell immediately that it was a hard reset)
  • I use 2 x 1080p screens plus my laptop screen (via a small HDMI / USB-C hub - not thunderbolt)
  • When I booted back up, I lost my left screen completely
  • Right screen showed duplicate of my laptop screen (normally my screens are set up as extensions)

Is there a way I can view a log to see what happened?

Laptop has not be shutdown properly for 3 days and in that time, either it goes into sleep mode automatically or I close the screen, unplug and then open the screen again.

This is to help you help yourself… post details of OS, distro (if linux) and version. At the very least that will allow people to answer your question about “viewing a log”.

Information about your storage–SSD and RAM–might help people to make more targeted observations.
