Is there a way to send parts back to framework, such as old keyboards, casing, and expansion cards? I have a FW12 bottom cover and will soon be swapping my aluminum USB A expansion card and non-backlit keyboard for the new plastic card and a backlit keyboard. Granted, the FW12 bottom has minor cracks, which seems to be a common issue. Still- feels like a waste to just chuck everything! The keyboard and expansion slots work like new.
I was thinking the recycling/shipping back to FW would’ve been a good budget option as people begin to upgrade. Refurbished keyboards, motherboards, expansion cards (which are already an option iirc!) may help lower the costs for those who are on the fence about it and all.

For now, maybe upgraders could put items on the Marketplace for a very cheap price. Reuse is another way to recycle!

I have also have a cracked bottom cover sitting in my closet. For me, whenever I buy a new mainboard, I plan to put the old i3 mainboard in the cracked bottom cover, maybe taking a dremel to it to make it smaller. As I type this I’m reminded that I don’t actually have the extra ram sitting around to do this though…

That’s what I was thinking of doing yeah. I noticed they have refurbished expansion cards every now and then which makes me curious. Can we ship old, functional expansion cards back for those refurb packages?

Currently, I think not; I would expect any refurb items sold by Framework will be unwanted returns or recalled-repaired items. Your recycling suggestion is a good idea, but it would require a new internal project in FW, and probably new computer systems, to ensure that recyclers get paid the going rate for their old kit.

Guys, that’s the entire point of the marketplace. Just put your old stuff up on there at a reasonable price and sell it on to someone else.
No harm in asking! I know FW can’t possibly look at every thread, but maybe if enough people ask sorta thing.

I like the idea. Framework would be a trusted buyer, or at least could offer a payment escrow service for the Community Market. Currently currency transfers are a bit risky, since it relies on the honesty of the seller.
