Have you tried playing the 4k60 @ 2x speed? Do you get drops?
I did that, didnāt get any drops or kernel errors at 2x either.
I had another look at the upstream issue mentioned earlier in the thread, originally opened for Rembrandt BTW, and theyāre getting ready to close it - you might want to post something there.
Iāve tried a couple of 4k vids (the Costa Rica vid posted earlier + this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9n6HkftavM), both at 2x speed, while keeping an eye on nvtop.
So far, so good.
Thanks a lot!!!
Nothing to add at this time, good stuff David.
@Mario_Limonciello is the firmware fix going to get released soon or is already released in a specific version of the linux-firmware package ? (I believe the fix is in the linux-firmware-git package)
The fix was merged upstream at the end of February, both on gitlab and on kernel.org.
About distro packages: it depends on each distribution. Fedora 39 has this fix. Ubuntu 24.04 is going to have it. Arch should also be up to date.
Current ubuntu versions (both 22.04 and 23.10) havenāt released any linux-firmware since mid February, so they donāt have it. If you want to have a fixed ubuntu now, you can download the amdgpu
directory from upstream, compress the files, copy the files into /lib/firmware/amdgpu
and regenerate the initrd.
Thanks, 100% accurate.
It would be good for someone to file a bug with Ubuntu to get it fixed in current versions too not just 24.04.
