This is with Linux mint 22.2 on my new framework 12.
I have bios version LFR20.03.04
When starting up the live USB, following the mint installation instructions, everything goes fine until I get
failed to start gpu-manager.service
…
failed to start lightdm.service
I have tried the cinnamon and xfce flavours and get exactly the same error. I have tried in regular and compatibility mode, and get the same error, though the interface is a bit different. An ubuntu ISO boots no problem with the same usb stick, so I don’t think it can be a problem with the port or drive.
Any ideas for getting mint to install? I’ve been following this guide:
which seems to suggest this should be a smoother process than I’m getting!
Look in the dmesg or journcalctl logs for “mesa” and “GL context” errors – it’s likely that your LiveUSB lacks the most-recent linux-firmware for Intel Xe2 graphics.

I installed Linux Mint 22.2 today just fine on my unit (i5 CPU.)
Installed it launching from USB to desktop, connecting to wifi, and installing media codecs.
Maybe a problem with the iso or installer? Did you verify your iso?
Thanks for the pointer. Apologies if this is a silly question, but given that I never get the laptop to boot, how can I get a terminal to go look at the logs?

I’d second the query about verifying your download was OK, then retry the download for a recent update and confirm that has the same MD5/SHA1/SHA256 hash check-sums as the source for the download.
If you can get an RJ45 gigibit ethernet connection on another Linux distribution, there’s a chance that you might SSH to the device to read the logs remotely. The desktop session failing to start isn’t a wholesale crash of the Mint Operating System.
