Samsung just showed off LPCAMM which combines some of the advantages of LPDDR5x memory with some of the tech Dell had been pushing with its CAMM memory modules.
Advantages:
- Faster than sodimm
- Lower power + heat than sodimm
- Less space required (including height)
Disadvantages:
- proprietary
- almost certainly more expensive
- dead end tech unless JEDEC adopts
- while faster than sodimm, not as fast as soldered
- Would be interesting to see in a Framework
- Framework should stick with sodimm
