Hello,

maybe someone can help me or maybe someone can reproduce the noise?
I have a scratching noise when I open e.g. [Roll20](https://roll20.net/) or FoundryVTT and the GPU.

> **Foundry test user**
>
> Since I have my own [foundry instance](https://foundryvtt.rollenspiel.monster/game), I have provided an account for testing, simply select the user `Test`. Only one person can use the user at a time.

I have already written to support about this, as it doesn’t seem normal to me, I just wanted to know if I am an isolated case.

Soundfile: [Rollenspiel Cloud](https://rollenspiel.cloud/s/oRQxQXwJLy8Ckba)
If you play the file on the web it is probably too quiet, but with VLC at 125% I could hear the noise.

I’ve downloaded the file and amplified the volume, as it was barely recognizable on my FW16 even with volume all the way up, plus you named an AAC/MP4Audio a MP3, but it’s ok, that’s what filter and plugins are for 😃
[Upload files for free - scratching noise.mp3 - ufile.io](https://ufile.io/3x237xmg) (auto-deletes after 30 days)

As to the problem, I’m not sure, if the noise is mechanical or electric. To me, it sounds like something is very close to a fans blades on the intake side. Where exactly did you record the sound, can you say if it’s louder left, middle or right, front or back?

It could also be coil whine, though the frequency seems to be too low for that.
The Cyberpunk Browsergame puts some load on the GPU, but not very heavy load, the iGPU is at 75%, CPU stays below 10%. I tried different settings, 60Hz on the monitor, vsync on/off, Radeon chill, FPS Target, it stays the same.

Try [Furmark](https://geeks3d.com/furmark/) and play with the settings so you can achieve different FPS and listen if it also occurs, either all the time, goes up with fans spinning up or changes with FPS.

sorry for the silent file, i had no contact with audio formats so far, i had to think about how to record it xD

It sounds a bit like an old HDD I must say and I don’t think it has anything to do with the fan, because regardless of the speed of the fans the noise remains the same/similar.

I would say the noise comes from the GPU, at least that’s where you can hear it best.

This is what my load looks like when I have cyberpunkt open, I can hear this constant scratching noise. As soon as I close the browser, it disappears immediately.

When I use [FurMark](https://www.gpumagick.com/scores/show.php?id=127515), I don’t have this noise, regardless of the settings when i use the gpu of the processor, as soon as i use the 7700S i have the following behaviour:

If I switch off the “Render furry object” option, I have a noise like a horn

Oh with VSync active I get a louder version of scratching

Then it seems like an electrical noise, or coil whine.
Every [part with R15 written on or R33](https://frame.work/de/de/products/16-graphics-board-amd-radeon-rx-7700s) is a coil, when the GPU die needs power, the current flow isn’t consistent, but always changing, with fast changing peaks and plateaus, this is when coils can make a noise. It seems, you got a dGPU with coil whine.

Normally, this would not be a warranty issue, because it’s not a defect but a side effect of how coils are working. Usually they are embedded in resin like substance inside the case to prevent vibrations, but sometimes this is not enough or badly done. But you could ask FW support for a replacement. But be aware, that the new one might make the same or even more annoying, different noises.

From the look [at the heatsink part in the market place](https://frame.work/de/de/products/16-graphics-module-heatsink-amd-ryzen-7040-series), the coils already seem to be prepared with a thermal pad. Thing is: Cooler coils whine more. On many desktop cards they are not connected to the cooler via pads or paste because of that. On the other hand, the thermal pad should fixate the lid, so I’m not sure, how they are making any noise.

If you don’t care about warranty, there is also another way to suppress the noise, like gap filling instant glue, which you can put between the body and the lid of the coils casing. I’ve done the same with either a Radeon Fury or Vega 64 I had earlier, I’m not sure right now. It works.
In this video he does not do it, but tells about it and it sounds similar to your problem:

</div>

But that can’t be the point of a new device making noise that disrupts daily operation.

It’s not like it’s an inconspicuous noise, you can hear it loudly and it’s also disruptive during any voice meetings.

This is also the first time I’ve had this and I’ve had a lot of hardware and I work in IT and none of the 200 or so devices there that I look after have ever made a noise that wasn’t the fan or coming from the speaker

But what I also don’t understand is why does the “Render furry object” prevent it from making noise?

You need to download the drivers for the amd 7700 s. Search Google to download amd 7700 s drivers.

Different FPS means different current flow. Sometimes this means, there are more plateaus and less peaks or vice versa, so that the resonance frequency is not met.
