Screen cracked very easily

Hey there, I got my framework 12 a few months ago, as i was scared of prices increasing. I’ve not used it much besides installing fedora, getting some apps on it, setting up rclone to google drive etc.
I took it with me in my bag on a train the other day, in case i needed a laptop for anything while i was at a friend’s. I noticed on Wednesday that there was a crack in the screen, when i tried to log in, and the on screen keyboard came up and started putting in random inputs. I managed to get to settings and turn off the touchscreen, but I’ll need a new screen before college in september, as I need to write.
The crack is one clean line, which leads me to suspect it’s stress related, but I’m slightly worried for how many screens i’ll go through in two years of college, taking 2, hour long trains every day with it in my bag..

I’ve contacted support on Thursday, as I feel like this may be a defect in the screen itself, but not had any response yet.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with the framework 12 screen? I do hope this isn’t a common occurence.

Can you attach a screenshot of the cracked screen so we see the exact damage?

Tricky to get it all in a nice photo, but here’s my best attempt

That certainly hasn’t been my experience. I intentionally abused my first Framework 12 to see how it would hold up, and it held up quite well. I put it in a backpack with a couple books and literally threw it around, then took it out of the bag and pushed it off of a table onto pavement several times, and it came away in perfect working order.

Hopefully you can get something worked out.

I’m glad to hear that, hope I can get a new screen from support then.
Even more so that my bag had clothes in it, so the laptop would’ve been well supported even if there were any impacts.

Framework should hire you to personally bless machines as they come off of the assembly line. I think that would help the situation. lol

Ouch! We will help get you sorted.

If you’re going to be carrying it in a backpack with other items quite a bit, I would highly recommend getting a little padded laptop sleeve to use in your backpack. They provide some extra padding, but more importantly keep things from getting inside it as things shift around.

I once had an Asus touchscreen break because a little hair tie got between the keyboard and screen in my backpack. Small things can be brutal.

Yeah, I’ve ordered a sleeve for it in future.
Support has responded now, I’m gonna send some photos in a little bit.

The asus screen breaking sucks, luckily i’ve never had that issue.. My only previous screen issues, on a Microsoft surface, involved a concrete bench :,D
