[SOLVED] 11th gen No USB Data on right side, power and display working fine, Power surge on USB port even with nothing connected

Hi all,

I’m using an 11th gen framework on windows 11 22H2 and all of a sudden the USB ports on the right side stopped providing data, I can still charge the laptop and other devices by plugging them into the right side ports and also connect a display with the HDMI expansion card but no matter what USB device I connect (flash drive, phone, yubikey) there’s no data going in and out. I also get an error saying “Power surge on USB port” even if I disconnect all expansion cards and accessories.

I would open a ticket with Support. They may have steps they want you to take to collect information. The following step may clear the issue, but in so doing, make collection of information from logs less fruitful. You might try powering the machine off, disconnecting it from power, letting it sit for 5 minutes, then powering it back on, to see if that resolves the issue. Steps after that might be a mainboard reset, but that’s more of a pain and involves removing the RTC battery, the holder for which is fragile, as well as disconnecting the primary battery, the connector for which is also a bit fragile. Good luck!

This has been solved on the FW discord after a mainboard reset.

Marking solved.

Can we get a post here explaining what needs to be done? I allowed windows to upgrade and now this is a thing.
