[According to this post](https://community.frame.work/t/tracking-battery-flipping-between-charging-and-discharging-draws-from-battery-even-on-ac/22484/619) your battery and charger are working normally i.e. an unmodified EC will give these numbers. Type the same command when you encounter the slow charging below 60% and see what you get

really wanted to do a quick check and at 77%, I did a quick check. It’s charging at about 40W

`sudo ectool chargestate show`
`ac = 1`
`chg_voltage = 17600mV`
`chg_current = 3840mA`
`chg_input_current = 10256mA`
`batt_state_of_charge = 77%`

Then, I disconnected it and now I’m waiting for it to go all the way down to 60%

I made it to 68%

`sudo ectool chargestate show`
`ac = 1`
`chg_voltage = 17600mV`
`chg_current = 3840mA`
`chg_input_current = 10256mA`
`batt_state_of_charge = 70%`

Now, I’m hitting 50W for charging, so does that mean it is working as normal?

I charged it back up to 73% and it shows this

Because it dropped to 45W, is that an indicator of any issues?

Normal value if the battery voltage is above 16.6V

> [@thereel\_RTM](#):
>
> Because it dropped to 45W, is that an indicator of any issues?

When the battery is above 70% charging is going to be slower due to voltage approaching 17.6V. The charging circuit is very basic, it doesn’t have steady state error correction so instead of maintaining 3840mA then transition to maintaining 17.6V, it’ll slowly reduce current as the voltage approaching 17.6V.

Therefore if you can’t replicate **20W charging at below 60%** , the problem is likely due to YAFI incompatible with the latest BIOS, causing bugs

Normal, the battery is approaching constant voltage (CV) charging voltage 17.6V

Perfect! I’ll just avoid those apps that mess with the EC, I’m OK with a slight cost to my battery health leaving it plugged in. Thank you so much for your help

You can always set a manual limit in BIOS.

Correct, but I cannot continuously reboot my laptop because I have a lot of sensitive assignments through Canvas because my campus is Windows heavy and not Linux friendly and love web apps. Automatic saving in Word is not that bad, but Canvas built in stuff is worse than hotdog water. I also need to have as much battery life as I can get when I am at my school. I only get 2.5 hours of battery life and will have to do around 2 hours of not being close enough to an outlet to charge the laptop. I wonder if removing the Graphics Module would make the battery life that much longer. The graphics module says it only pulls 3 watts on idle, would that significantly improve battery life?

Also, at 90% it says that it will take 20 minutes to charge, is that normal? I’m pretty sure that’s a bit slow, but I’m not sure. Wattage is back down to 17

It’s recommended to close all monitoring software and use `$ upower -i $(upower -e | grep battery)` periodically to check the wattage as those monitoring software may keep your dGPU from sleeping, draining more energy.

Check
`/sys/class/drm/card1/device/power_state` and
`/sys/class/drm/card2/device/power_state`
One of them should be D3cold. If both are D0 something is preventing the dGPU from sleeping

Damn, you’re right. Something is preventing the GPU from sleeping. I got D0 for both

So far, testing for today, you have seemed to have solved my issue. Thank you bunches kind stranger. Going to continue my studies unabated by bad EC and poor app download decisions
