[Solved] Prototype Interposer

I was watching a short from The Verge and noticed that the interposer they removed from the expansion shell is different from the current/old version that is in the store, nor is this new one listed in the store.

I’m just curious as I don’t think this was mentioned anywhere else.

Looks very prototyp-ey, to me… I don’t know tho.

Honestly, makes sense as the MB-side connector on the old interposer is probably half the BOM cost because it’s a pretty specific part with 78 small pins. And they cannot/don’t want to sell the new version because it won’t be compatible with 7040-series motherboards.

I’m not sure that it won’t be compatible with 7040 boards. That connector it plugs into exists on 7040 boards, whether the pinout is the same will be a question I guess.

I don’t see it on this picture of the 7840HS mainboard.

Edit: though I also don’t see it on the newer gen of MBs as well, huh

that short was 2 years ago, its a prototype

That explains it, thank you.
