# \[Solved\] - RISC-V mainboard noisy fan bearing

_Tags are partially bogus; there is no tag for the RISC-V mainboard yet_
I received my DC mainboard today, and it looks like it uses the exact same thermal system as the other Framework 13 laptops (seems identical to my 12 gen Intel mainboard in this regard). However, upon turning on, I immediately noticed the fan making a crackling noise, which sounds like an improperly lubricated fan bearing. When I turn the laptop upside down, this noise disappears. This doesn’t seem to cause thermal issues, as airflow is normal and the CPU is sitting at \<50°C even under load.
Has anyone observed something similar, including with other mainboards? I’m curious to know. It would also be good to know where I can contact DeepComputing for an RMA, since they only link to their GitHub on their website for support and I’m not posting PII/order numbers on there 🙂

Recommend opening a support ticket with Framework to see if they will RMA it.

Since the marketplace listing says “support is provided by DC“, I’d have assumed they will reject any support request for this product, but I guess I can try.

A little bit of an update:
- Framework Support got back to me and pointed me towards [support@deepcomputing.io](mailto:support@deepcomputing.io). I have not contacted them (see below), but that email address should be listed somewhere. If anyone from DC/FW is reading here :3
- After a day or so of operation, the noise disappeared. The sound of the fan is still different from my 12th gen Intel mainboard, probably mainly because it never spins as fast. However, it sounds pretty healthy now. Therefore I’m not going to RMA the board after all. Did anyone have a similar experience?
