[Solved] - Windows Power saver mode won't properly turn off

I noticed a few months ago that when I turn off Windows Power Saver mode, the TDP doesn’t return to normal (from 25w to 50w) until I reboot Windows.

I’m not sure if this is a Framework issue or a Windows problem, but I couldn’t find anyone discussing this issue except on the Framework forum (see the last message) : FW Laptop 13 Ryzen 7640U TDP - #10 by Florian_Grams

Here is a detailed walkthrough to reproduce this issue and get back to normal:

  1. Power settings are set to “Balanced,” and the TDP I get is ~50W
  2. Activating Power Saver mode sets the TDP ~ 25W; everything’s normal so far.
  3. Deactivating Power Saver mode does not return the TDP to 50W, even though the power settings remain on Balanced.
  4. Switching between power settings (“Power Efficiency,” “Balanced,” or “Performance”) does not restore the TDP to the normal 50W either.
  5. The only way to get the TDP back to 50W is to ensure Power Saver mode is off before rebooting the laptop.

This issue has persisted for several months now (possibly over 6 months). I was hoping a Windows update would resolve it, but it still hasn’t.

Here is a picture of HWiNFO during a Cinebench run, showing the activation and deactivation of Power Saver mode during the benchmark (the power setting “Équilibre” means Balanced).

For me the solution to this problem was switching to Ubuntu

Hey Rem! You may have already tried these steps, but wanted to put them here just in case…

I’m seeing a couple posts of the same issue in Windows forums. They recommend checking both power settings on the laptop (one for plugged in and one for on battery) to ensure that there’s no conflicting settings.

They also recommend checking your screen saver time out. Looks like there’s some reports that having a short screen saver timer can cause some power / wake issues.

Finally, they recommend changing the power settings via the control panel only, instead of in Windows settings. There’s some reports that Windows settings menu isn’t saving properly.

If you still experience the issue, please give our support a shout here. We’ll be happy to dive a bit deeper.

Hello, thank you for your assistance, I tried thoses steps but nothing worked.

But I found somewhere on a forum a command line :

powercfg -restoredefaultschemes

And after a reboot, it just fixed my issue.
