Sporadic 0% battery false alarms

I just recently starting getting sporadic false alarms that the battery is at 0%. It has occurred both plugged in and not plugged in, and at various states of charge. A few seconds later, the real battery status reappears. It is somewhat annoying because it dims the screen, plays a sad sound and threatens to sleep the computer in 60 seconds.

Any ideas?

Thanks

No solutions though?

Update: it is now sitting with the 0% battery status for long time periods (while continuing to operate normally).

Full 0-100% charge while powered down did not solve the problem.

Do you get this on another distro? You could probably find just by using Ubuntu on a bootable memory stick.
