Has anyone had issues with steam trying to patch a game, causing the system to appear to freeze or run really slow, and then eventually steam dies/crashes and everything goes back to normal?
This has been an ongoing issue for me for a while. I would have to re-load steam and hope it gets farther before crashing each time. Discord also dies/crashes when this happens.
I thought it was some weird thing with btrfs, or with my nvme drive. But I tested from my other installed drive and same issue.
I was thinking it’s some flaw in the Framework 16 hardware……But then I tried something tonight that resolved it all.
I logged out of my (wayland) session, switched to X11, logged back in. Then opened steam and it blew through my broken update and the 5 additional game updates waiting in line like nothing. All while I was able to open my web browser, move the mouse around, and generally use the computer while it was patching. I can’t believe it was wayland causing these issues the whole time….or maybe xwayland on top of wayland. Either way, X11 is stable.
